I've been debating for a while about having no boxed items in my kitchen. Not really for any reason really other than money for the grocery items and ingredients that are used.
I had been researching some mixes for several months and was really just ready to go in head first. I'm very satisfied that I did. My results have been wonderful.
I found a website that had recipes for pre-made mixes. The website is Heart, Hands, Home. She has some many awesome recipes and mixes on her site! I have made two of them so far. I will be making the rest soon when I get the money to buy more containers that I want.
I made a Quick Mix that is for biscuits, coffee cake and crust. They turned out wonderful. Tasty and very fast once the mix was made. Its so easy.
This is her recipe. I didn't alter it at all. So no credit to me!
This was a coffee cake that I made and this was about 3 minutes after I got it out of the oven... The kids and hubby got that much before I could get a picture!! It was great!
5lb bag of flour
4 cup dry milk
3/4 cup baking soda
2 tbsp salt
1 tbsp cream of tarter
5 cup vegetable shorting
In a large bowl I mixed half of these ingredients together. I didn't want to waste any of my ingredients if I didn't like it. Then cut in small peices of the shorting until you have it all mixed in.
Store in air tight container.
The second mix I made was a Brownie Mix and again her recipe I didn't alter it at all, she had it perfect there was no need. It to was so simple to make. It really might of took me 5 minutes to make and place into the air tight containers. I've made two recipes of it and I'm beyond happy. Its the best brownies I've ever made to be totally honest. They are so fluffy! The first recipe I didn't play with any. The second time I added peanut butter chips and wow-zers!
Perfection! They are so delightful.
8 cups sugar
6 cups flour( I used all purpose)
2 cups cocoa powder
1 1/2 cup baking powder
1 tbsp salt
Mix together.
I will be back with more. I plan to make her Cornbread Mix, Muffin Mix and Tortilla Mix.
If you have any read mixes that you use, please post them I would love to hear of them and have the recipe!
