This is something so new to me. I mean it's been a while since I had a 4 year old. Actually it's been 4 years because Zachary is 8!
If you have been following my blog you know that I am helping my brother out by teaching his smallest daughter Pre - K this year. A few situations made it impossible for her to go to the local one provided near him.
I actually didn't even have to be asked to do it I volunteered so I pray that I don't take on to much at a time!
Mattie is 4 and is full of energy. She was in Preschool last year and knows a lot of stuff already. The first month I am trying to find where she is on a lot of basic skills.
I am trying out a theme approach to see how that works! The month of September is all about Ponds.
I school Mattie 2 times a week for a few hours.
This was our first week and she was able to come stay all night! Lexi reading her a bedtime story before bath time.
Snack before bed! Looks like 2 happy girls!
Tracing activity. Trying to help the turtle get to the pond.
This activity was sorting Insects & Non - Insects. She actually knew this concept very well. I was unsure of how she would do but I actually didn't have to explain to much about insects.
Confessions of a Homeschoolers Alphabet Find! She really loved this and I know that it will help her recognize her alphabet better. She already knows her ABC's and sounds so this was something that I wanted her to do for fun and review.
This is another Confessions download helping Mattie write her letters. Again she already knows how to write through 10 but we are reviewing at this point.
We took a break before starting math and counting. We read a book about Frog's Life Cycle.
Then we moved onto counting. She counted to 100 then we started skip counting by 2's to 10. This will take some practice but I feel it's important.
Sensory Bin ~ Pond of course!
She has fish, frogs, salamander, craw fish and a herring. I placed water into the tub and added a few drops of blue food coloring for fun. I gave her a few small cups and spoons and she really loved playing in this!
Last but not least we played with a puzzle. She knew all but 2 shapes so I think that is great!
We only "schooled" once this week because Friday we had a fun Field Trip! Hey - That counts as school! And she was actually able to tell me a lot about what she had learned in the Aquarium part of the Science Center!
Any Pre - K tips for me?

I have a 4 year old girl, so I'm always looking for good preschool stuff too :) Here's my Preschool Pinterest board, I think that anything that helps with fine motor skills is important at this age too. Have fun with your preschooler!
